Hours of Operation
North Star House is an active restoration site and event venue, so public access and hours vary throughout the week. Private events, restoration work, and scheduled programming may affect when the house and grounds are open. Please check current hours and access information before planning your visit.
Monday
8:00 AM until the gates close
The grounds are open to visitors. The house is closed.
Tuesday
8:00 AM until the gates close
Volunteer restoration and grounds work takes place throughout the day. Visitors are welcome to see the work in progress and take a self-guided walk through the areas of the house that are open.
Please keep in mind that a tour guide will likely not be available. North Star House is an active restoration site, so work areas may be dusty, cluttered, noisy, or temporarily closed for safety.
Wednesday
8:00 AM until the gates close
The grounds are open to visitors. The house is closed.
Thursday
8:00 AM until the gates close
Public docent tours are offered on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
Volunteer restoration and grounds work takes place throughout the day. Visitors are welcome to see the work in progress and take a self-guided walk through the areas of the house that are open.
Friday - Saturday - Sunday:
Closed for private events
Visiting During a Volunteer Workday
Tuesday and Thursday visits offer a behind-the-scenes look at the ongoing care and restoration of North Star House. Volunteers may be working throughout the building and grounds, and the areas available to visitors can change from week to week.
Please follow posted signs, avoid active work areas, and ask a volunteer before entering any area that appears closed or restricted. Children should remain with an adult at all times.
Holiday and Event Closures
Hours may change due to private events, holidays, weather, restoration work, or other activities at the estate. Check the event calendar or contact North Star House before making a special trip.
What to Know
Grounds Access
The estate grounds are open to the public Monday through Thursday. We do not permit public access on weekends due to private events. You're welcome to explore on your own—no reservation needed for grounds access.
House Tours
Guided or self-guided tours of the Julia Morgan-designed house are available when our volunteer docents are present. Tours offer insight into the estate's architecture, history, and the women who shaped it.
What to Bring
Bring a blanket or lawn chair, comfortable shoes for walking, water, and a sense of curiosity. The grounds are beautiful year-round and offer plenty of shade for a leisurely afternoon.
